Nel turbinio di incertezze che circondano il calendario del tennis professionistico dei prossimi mesi si susseguono le voci a proposito delle alternative che ATP, WTA e i tornei dello Slam stanno valutando per salvare il salvabile di questa stagione 2020 e prevenire disastri per il 2021. Il prossimo torneo del Grande Slam in programma è lo US Open, previsto dal 30 agosto al 13 settembre al Billie Jean King National Tennis Center di Flushing Meadows, che attualmente è utilizzato dalla città di New York come struttura temporanea per la cura di pazienti affetti da COVID-19 e per la produzione di pasti di emergenza per i senzatetto. La USTA sta continuando la preparazione per il torneo: la settimana scorsa si è aperta la campagna accrediti per i giornalisti che sono intenzionati a coprire l’evento, e alcuni giorni fa hanno pure informato che le audizioni per selezionare i bambini che canteranno l’inno nazionale prima dell’inizio delle varie sessioni si terranno la settimana prossima

While aviation analysts are wondering how the new reality emerging in the post-pandemic world will affect the profitability and the survival itself for low-cost carriers, since discretionary spending is likely to be considerably reduced by the impending economic depression, Jozsef Varadi, CEO of European ultra-low-cost carrier Wizz Air, feels very confident that his company not only will be able to survive the crisis but will also be able to take advantage of new opportunities created by the emergency.

Dopo il debutto di Novak Djokovic la settimana scorsa con due “sessioni” in coppia prima con Andy Murray e poi con Stan Wawrinka, è stato Rafael Nadal ad aprire le danze questa settimana con una sua trasmissione personale su Instagram. Inizialmente doveva trattarsi di un “AskRafa”, ovvero di una sessione di domande e risposte con i fan, tuttavia la presenza tra gli spettatori di alcuni suoi illustri colleghi ha rapidamente trasformato la trasmissione in un evento ad ospiti multipli. Air Canada has reduced its capacity by 85-90 percent during the second quarter of 2020 compared to the same period in 2019. Come si temeva dopo la comunicazione di venerdì da parte di Tennis Canada a seguito delle direttive del Governo del Quebec, l’edizione 2020 della Rogers Cup femminile di Montreal non si disputerà. Last Friday the Government of Quebec asked to cancel all public gatherings and events in the province until 31 August. And on the following day, Tennis Canada acknowledged the impossibility of holding the 2020 Rogers Cup, WTA version, in Montreal and officially postponed the event to 2021 . The Premier 5 tournament will take place in Montreal from 6 to 15 August 2021. All ticket holders will be contacted individually but Tennis Canada has advised all tickets for the 2020 edition will be honored in 2021. The ATP version of the Rogers Cup, the Masters 1000 tournament currently being planned in Toronto on 7-16 August 2020 is still officially going ahead: Toronto is located in Ontario, a different province than Quebec, and no governmental action has been taken at this stage to request the cancellation of all sporting events. Il centro USTA di Lake Nona, Florida Lo sport americano, in particolare il pattinaggio artistico, è stato scosso negli ultimi mesi da uno scandalo che ha svelato una cultura di abusi sessuali ripetuti perpetrati dagli allenatori nei confronti delle ragazzine facenti parte delle squadre nazionali, le quali per paura di essere messe fuori squadra hanno mantenuto il segreto per lunghi anni a proposito delle violenze subite. Le indagini che hanno portato alla scoperta dei colpevoli di questi reati hanno avuto come protagonista centrale lo “US Center for SafeSport” , un’associazione creata nel 2014 da parte del Comitato Olimpico statunitense con il supporto di quasi tutte le federazioni sportive nazionali del Paese. Tutte tranne una: la USTA , infatti, sosteneva all’epoca che una federazione avrebbe dovuto avere la possibilità di gestire il monitoraggio di queste situazioni, essendo maggiormente a conoscenza delle varie dinamiche e dei problemi specifici del singolo sport. In the United States, the CARES Act passed into law by the Government on March 27 will provide financial relief to airlines for an amount of almost $60 billion, but the conditions imposed to the airline in order to be eligible to receive the federal grants and cash loans could put some of the secondary airports around the country in a very difficult position.
